Sharing recipes with friends is timeless.

Recently, my husband and I stopped by to visit some friends from his Sons of the American Revolution Chapter. We had only intended on picking up some book donation for our Veteran’s project but were enticed to stay long enough to enjoy a cup of Hot Spiced Apple Tea and great company. The decision wasn’t a difficult one as it was quite cold outside and we needed some warm beverages. And we adore the Nelson’s.

So as we sat down at their kitchen table and fellowshipped with our friends about the recent Veteran’s Christmas Project. Mrs. Nelson then shared her little story about the Hot Spiced Apple Tea.

“I first tasted this in Camden, Ark. about 1989.
My mother gave it to me and everyone seems to like it.”
Janet Rothert’s Hot Spiced Apple Tea
One gallon apple juice (not cider)
3/4 cup Red Hots boxed candy
One cup brown sugar
3-4 cinnamon sticks

Can put all ingredients in a crock pot or large pan on the stove. Heat until all red hots are melted. I put the apple juice in the bottom of a 40 cup coffee pot and the dry ingredients in the basket and ‘perk’ it.

Enjoy! Alice Nelson

She then was gracious enough to share her recipe with me so that I could make it for my family. Mrs. Nelson agreed that it would be ok to share her treasured recipe for Hot Spiced Apple Tea for y’all to enjoy over the holidays.

I believe that recipes are wonderful treasures, full of nostalgia and memories that include our favorite things and people at times. No matter how simple or complicated they may be.  And it is even better when we are able to share them with others to experience too!

  1. My mouth was watering just reading the recipe and the story. Didn’t get to try it over the Christmas season, but will definitely keep it on hand for use on a cold winter night!

    1. Please let me know how it turns out for you once you have a chance to try it, Barbara. I really think that you will love it! 🙂
