Happy St. Patrick’s Day Y’all. I am busy, busy in my kitchen today baking and preparing for our annual St. Patrick’s Day Feast. As I mentioned in a previous post, we celebrate this occasion every year with friends and family by cooking a traditional Irish Meal. It is always so much fun. This recipe for Wheat Irish Soda Bread has been gem for me and we make it every year.
All you will need are these five (5) ingredients!
- 2 cups wheat flour
- 2 cups white bread flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 1/4 cups buttermilk
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Whisk the above ingredients together in a bowl then turn out onto a floured surface and lightly knead just until the dough forms a rustic ball.
Grease and lightly flour a baking sheet. Place the rustic ball of bread onto the cookie sheet for baking. Score the top with a sharp knife in a crisscross pattern.
Bake in a 400 degree oven until golden brown about 20-25 minutes.
You can test for doneness by gently tapping the bread to see if it sounds “hollow”.
